Compos Mentis leases a 22-acre farm that belongs to Cayuga Nature Center, an environmental and outdoor education site. The farm is three miles south of Taughannock State Park and approximately five miles north of Ithaca, N.Y. (click for map.)

The farm is situated on a gentle slope overlooking Cayuga Lake. Its main entrance is on Garrett Road, just south of the Nature Center on Rte. 89 (locally known as Taughannock Boulevard).

Compos Mentis operates Mondays through Fridays, from morning to late afternoon, and with occasional evening and weekend activities.

We are a non-residential program and believe in the value of working through a mental illness while remaining a part of one’s home community. Compos Mentis expects families and friends to participate regularly and serve as volunteers, along with many others in the community at large. In the evening and on weekends, apprentices are encouraged to attend special events at Compos Mentis or take advantage of arts, festivals, concerts and other events in the community.

2008 Season

The 2008 season will run from Monday, May 5 through Friday, October 31. We are accepting applications now for the 12 apprentice spots. Please see the "Apply" section of the web site to download an application.This year, we also expect to invite community members to join us as guests of the farm one day a week, probably on Fridays.
