The Application Process
To apply to Compos Mentis, please download the application forms (1 and 2) from the bottom of this page or request paper applications. Please ask your psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner to return their parts separately.

An applicant will be invited to an interview to determine if the program is a good fit. An applicant's psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse may be asked for their observations, and a physician's referral may be required, if there are serious physical health issues. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible of their place in the program. Preference will be given to those applicants who anticipate participating for the entire growing season. A minimum commitment of one month is expected.

Fees
Because Compos Mentis is not a treatment program we are ineligible for health care reimbursement and therefore rely on program fees and generosity from the community to cover our operating expenses. Our five-day-a-week program costs $150 per week. When need can be documented, we are able to offer some reduction of the weekly fee. If you would like to explore the possibility of a need-based fee reduction, please address this in your Admissions Interview.

Agreements
Prospective apprentices and their family members or friends will be asked to describe in advance what they would like done in case an apprentice becomes temporarily unable to participate in the program. This non-binding, written agreement is a good-faith agreement to try to honor the wishes of individual apprentices with minimal disruption to others in the program.

In the event that an apprentice needs to make an unscheduled departure from Compos Mentis, staff members will do everything in their power to accommodate a member’s and family’s wishes. To download the Compos Mentis Application Forms (pdf), click on the following links.
